Returning Honda Civic Hatchback Confirmed

Published on April 28 2016

The 2016 Honda Civic has gone from good to better when a tenth generation was introduced at the end of last year with a look to remember and one of the best platforms yet.

But with a full lineup that has yet to be upgraded, the award-winning sedan was only the beginning.

In January, Honda took the stage at the Montreal auto show with the Canadian premier of the new and improved Honda Civic coupe. The two-door version of the model received the same exciting and new look as the sedan, closely resembling the coupé concept from the 2015 New York auto show that launched the Civic’s new visual signature.

The Return of a Classic

A year after the unveiling of the concept that was to become the tenth generation Civic, Honda took the 2016 New York auto show stage with yet another concept. Still sporting the same head-turning design of the new Civic, this new concept marks the return to the market of one of Honda’s most anticipated variant of their best-selling sedan. Later this year, the lineup will welcome the Civic hatchback after over ten years of absence from the North American market.

The five-door hatchback will be the occasion for the automaker to introduce another novelty. Since the introduction of the new 2016 Civic, there has been a lot of talk about its new 1.5L turbo engine as well. The more enthusiastic however were left wondering why the six-speed manual transmission already available on the entry level 2.0L engine was not carried over with the turbo, the latter available only with a CVT. Honda addressed the situation and with enough demand, obliged. Starting this year, the Civic lineup will be available with the turbo and manual transmission combo.

If this year will keep Honda busy, next year will as well with the launch of the upgraded Civic Si, the sportier Civic that will finally receive its refreshed look. It will however lose the title of sportiest Civic as the 300-hp Type R will join the lineup, styled with a more aggressive version of the tenth generation design and equipped with a 2.0L turbo engine and plenty of attitude. Both sports model will launch in 2017.

The Honda Civic family is growing! Discover everything the 2016 Civic has to offer both in two and four door versions and with your choice of a 2.0L or a 1.5L turbo engines, now available at Orléans Honda.
