The luxury sport utility segment is packed with exciting options for consumers in the Ottawa area who are looking for a compact SUV that is powerful, safe, refined and fun to drive. Two of those options are the 2017 BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. Each offers interesting features, but their respective personalities are quite different.

The 2017 BMW X3 focuses on driving pleasure

The 2017 BMW X3 was completely redesigned a few years ago while the Audi Q5 is about to be refreshed. This means that you get the latest safety, connectivity and comfort technologies in the X3 while the Q5 is slightly outdated by today’s compact luxury SUV standards.

But what marks the biggest difference between the 2017 BMW X3 of the Audi Q5 is not found in the specifications. Recognized for their sharp handling, BMW models are designed for those who love to have fun while driving. The 2017 BMW X3 is not an exception to this rule and offers dynamic handling, impressive agility and an overall stable and solid feel. On the other hand, the 2017 X3 is also a spacious, versatile and comfortable utility vehicle.

Available starting at $ 44,650, the 2017 BMW X3 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The Audi Q5 2017 is offered at a slightly more affordable price, but its turbo engine develops 220 horsepower. The 2017 X3 is also more economical than the Audi Q5 with an average fuel consumption rating of 11.1 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway compared to the Q5 which has an average consumption rating of 12.0 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 8.6 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway.

On the road, we notice the difference in power between the X3 and the Q5. The BMW X3 responds more quickly when passing or accelerating. That said, it is also very comfortable and its modern cockpit is very spacious for both the passengers in front and those in the back.

A 300-horsepower engine in the 2017 BMW X3

If you are looking for a little more power, the 2017 BMW X3 xDrive35i is powered by a six-cylinder twin-turbo engine that develops 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is therefore more powerful than the 3.0-liter six-cylinder Q5 that offers 272 horsepower. Like the four-cylinder engine, the six-cylinder X3 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
