2015 Subaru Outback – The perfect alternative to midsize SUVs

Published on August 01 2014

Consumers searching for a midsize Sport Utility Vehicle may want to pause for a moment and consider the alternative. The 2015 Subaru Outback is a wagon that offers admirable off-road performance, excellent visibility, and a roomy interior.

The vehicle also includes the automaker’s EyeSight active safety technology and renown full-time all-wheel drive system.

Fresh for the 2015 model year, the all-new Subaru Outback has more to offer its customers: it is more refined, offers greater utility, passenger space, advanced safety systems, and more amenities to “make even the most adventurous drive feel unexpected.” The concept of “more” seems to be a theme for the new wagon, as drivers are given two possibilities with their 2015 Outback: a comfortable and quiet daily commute, and the capability and dependability of taking the vehicle off the main road.

There is also a choice of two engines: the first being a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque – the more fuel-efficient option, while the other is a more powerful engine, a 3.6-litre 6-cylinder engine generating 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Consumers can also select between the standard 6-speed manual transmission, or the available Continuously Variable Transmission with paddle shifters and X-mode.

The wagon also offers car-like handling, making for a more enticing everyday drive, while Subaru’s standard and popular all-wheel drive system, along with X-mode, delivers more rugged capability, allowing drivers to take the wagon off the beaten path. As for Subaru’s AWD system, know that it is equipped on every vehicle in the lineup, with the exception of the automaker’s sporty rear-wheel drive BRZ coupe. The AWD system is constantly adjusting the distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels, which provides better handling in “extreme conditions,” and as the automaker has mentioned, it makes life “easier, safer and more enjoyable” for all.

Another important feature to consider is the advanced driver assist technology known as EyeSight. It uses two cameras that are positioned near the rearview mirror to monitor the road ahead. Pre-collision braking and throttle management, adaptive cruise control, and lane sway warning are among the features included with EyeSight.

And although the 2015 model has not yet been rated, the 2014 Subaru Outback received top safety ratings from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (TOP SAFETY PICK+), and from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (5-star overall rating). Other features on the 2015 Outback include X-mode with hill descent (optional with CVT models only), traction and vehicle dynamics control, blind spot detection, and rear cross traffic alert and more.

As for the spaciousness and comfort of the all-new Outback, consumers can expect one-touch flat folding rear seats for additional cargo volume, and available leather seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, and front and rear heated seats with high/med/low settings for added comfort. The list of standard an available features is actually quite long, which again brings back the theme of “more.” Automatic, dual-zone climate control, a 5-inch LDC display, Bluetooth with audio streaming and voice-activated phone connectivity, navigation, satellite radio, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls are among the elements to keep and eye out for.

With the all-new 2015 Subaru Outback, consumers can expect more. The wagon provides commendable off-road performance, tons of safety technologies along with a great AWD system that comes standard, and a long list of features you can inquire about via our website. Excellent visibility and a spacious interior also make the wagon that much more attractive, along with a starting price of $27,995 MSRP, and fuel economy ratings of 9.3/7.1 litres per 100 kilometres (city/hwy) for most models in the lineup.
