The All-New 2016 Honda HR-V is Safer, more powerful, and Sportier

The new 2016 Honda HR-V is available now, which means that buyers can now get their hands on Honda’s brand new subcompact sport utility vehicle that offers an unparalleled blend of interior space, sportiness, safety, standard features, fuel economy and power.

Indeed, the 2016 Honda HR-V, which starts at $20,690, has quite a lot to offer. For starters, it comes with heated seats, air conditioning, Bluetooth and a rear-view camera. In terms of standard features, it’s hard to beat the HR-V in its segment.

Powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 141 horsepower, the HR-V can be equipped with a six-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic. Buyers also get to choose between all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive.

Inside, there is more than 600 liters of cargo space, and the rear seats come equipped with Magic Seat technology which means that they offer up to five different positions. That also means that you can fit about anything in the back of the HR-V.

Journalists are Loving the HR-V

Sure enough, this is a model that acts and feels very much like other Honda models. I get the chance to test out HR-Vs equipped with both the CVT and the six-speed manual transmission. I know this is blasphemy to many "car people," but if I were buying this car, I'd opt for the CVT. Moving through gears is easy enough with the manual, but I can't get over how light the clutch is. Since it already feels like it's not there, why not skip the middleman? The CVT does what it's supposed to do, for a model that isn't focused on performance anyway.

For an urban-minded crossover, the HR-V hits the bull’s-eye. It provides good visibility and a small footprint, making it easy to navigate around crowded city streets. It's also a cinch to park, thanks in no small part to the rear-view camera that comes standard on all models.

As alluded to earlier, the interior is wonderfully functional. I have no issues manipulating the rear seats into any "mode" I want (though some require two hands), and I appreciate that they fold flat –TheAutonet

The 2016 Honda HR-V is the smallest SUV in the Honda range, but it still offers between 657 liters (AWD) and 688 liters (FWD) of rear cargo space with all seats in place, and between 1,583 liters (AWD) and 1,665 liters (FWD) with the seat lowered. The trunk also happens to be deep and able to accommodate objects of all sizes.

We should also mention the Magic Seat rear seat that offers multiple configurations to carry even more items, even those that are tall as they can be folded upwards. In total, there are five configurations for the back seat.

The interior of the HR-V also offers several storage spaces everywhere, including one below the center console. Although it’s a bit hard to get to, it can swallow quite a bit of that annoying stuff we tend not to know what to do with once we get inside our car, like our wallet, phone, and keys – EcoloDriver

Since the HR-V shares its platform with the Fit and the fuel tank is located under the front seats, the passenger compartment features Honda's ingenious adjustable "Magic Seat" rear bench, which offers increased versatility compared to the competition and an impressive amount of space, more so than even that of a Volkswagen Tiguan – a vehicle that belongs to the compact SUV category. The HR-V's central console is equipped with USB and HDMI ports, a space that's supposed to be for a smart phone and a colour touchscreen also found in the Fit – GuideAutoWeb
