Lexus LC 500h - Hybrid Luxury

Published on April 14 2016

With its gigantic hourglass grille, the check-mark shaped LED headlights, the long hood and sexy proportions, the LC 500 is bound to become the striking flagship coupe of the already head-turning lineup.

In January, Lexus hit the Detroit auto show with one of their sexiest designs yet, introducing the all-new LC 500 luxury sport coupe. Inspired by the 2012 LF-LC concept, the LC 500 imposed a new standard of elegance and luxury in the segment. The V8-powered coupe also displayed the latest in terms of technology and engineering. A few weeks ago, Lexus unveiled the new LC 500h, the hybrid powered variation of the sport coupe.

Engineered to Turn Heads

The lines of the LC 500 have remained true to the concept’s. With its gigantic hourglass grille, the check-mark shaped LED headlights, the long hood and sexy proportions, the LC 500 is bound to become the striking flagship coupe of the already head-turning lineup. The design goes way beyond the surface; it also symbolizes a close collaboration between the design and the engineering teams, resulting in a car that is both beautiful to the eye and spirited to the drive. The LC 500h is built on an all-new rear-wheel drive luxury platform bound to underpin any future front-engine, rear-wheel-drive model by the maker. The engineers who worked on the hybrid coupe also worked on its “inertia specifications”, centralizing the weight of the vehicle and lowering its center of gravity for an improved handling.

Of course, where luxury is concerned, nothing is left to chance, and the cockpit of the car is a reflection of its dazzling exterior. The dashboard has been positioned towards the front, encouraging a driving position that is more engaging. The layout is intuitive and a new steering-wheel design with larger magnesium alloy paddle shifters meant to improve the grip and the flexibility in the steering. The LC 500h will also debut the 2017 Lexus multimedia package that will feature a faster and more flexible software alongside an improved interface. The coupe will also receive a Pioneer premium audio system that will please any audiophile.

Light on Consumption, High on Power

Lexus’ Multi Stage Hybrid System is where fuel economy meets spirited driving. It combines the combustion power of a 3.5L V6 engine to a lithium-ion battery pack, mated with a four-speed automatic transmission. This should result in a 0-100 acceleration below the five-second mark. The powertrain will also feature an M mode which will allow the driver to go into an electronic manual mode. The two-door luxury vehicle will also come standard with a flight of safety features thanks to the Lexus Safety System + range of technologies that includes pre-crash safety with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and automatic high beams.
