Honda Unveils a New Version of the Honda Civic in Los Angeles

Published on November 30 2015

"I think our customers are going to be utterly surprised by what this new Coupe delivers in terms of refinement, safety, efficiency and fun-to-drive performance.”

If the Honda Civic is the most popular car in Canada for 17 years now, it’s in part because it offers a variety of versions that can reach several different types of buyers who have a host of different needs.  Indeed, we have the sedan, but there is also the coupe, the sportier Si version, and even a hybrid, or at least that was the case with the previous generation.

Honda is somewhat replicating that recipe with the all-new tenth-generation Civic introduced a short while back. The sedan, unveiled first, has already begun to garner praise as it has just been named Best Compact Car according to the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. Then, at the last Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda introduced a whole new generation of the Coupe version of the Civic.

“We continue on our epic 10th-generation Civic journey with the sportiest, most sophisticated and tech-savvy Civic Coupe yet,” said Dave Gardner, senior vice president of Honda Canada Inc. "I think our customers are going to be utterly surprised by what this new Coupe delivers in terms of refinement, safety, efficiency and fun-to-drive performance.”

The Honda Civic Coupe, Better Than Ever

Visually, the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe is sleeker and more athletic with its more muscular front fascia. A spoiler is added and fits perfectly to the back of the vehicle, obviously giving a more dynamic look to the car as a whole, yet the refinement of the new Civic family is still very present.

Inside, passengers will be entitled to more space as the wheelbase increases by 80 mm. The width of the car also increased. In more specific terms, legroom increases by 130 mm in the back while cargo volume increases by 238 liters. Behind the wheel, the driver enjoys a lower driving position which gives the impression of being more connected to the vehicle.

Performance has Been Optimized

The same engine choices offered for the sedan will be found in the Coupe. That means that the old 1.8-liter base engine is replaced by a new 2.0-liter engine that delivers 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. For those needing more power, there is a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine developing 174 horsepower. The first engine comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission while a CVT automatic is optional. The second engine is only offered with a CVT automatic transmission.

The Honda Civic Coupe will be available in dealerships this spring. For more information, contact us today at Brockville Honda!
