Acura Compact Crossover Unveiled in Beijing

Published on May 02 2016

The Acura CDX is based on the same platform underlying the compact Honda HR-V. The design, however, takes after another concept from Acura, the Precision; a bold new design venue explored by the manufacturer.

The 2016 Beijing Auto Show was the scene of a many impressive global unveils and Acura was on the list of makers who had something special planned for the Chinese and global audience. In fact, the luxury brand showed for the first time what is bound to become the production version of their SUV-X concept compact crossover, first showed in 2013. Introducing the Acura CDX.

When Concept Becomes Reality

The Acura CDX is based on the same platform underlying the compact Honda HR-V. The design, however, takes after another concept from Acura, the Precision; a bold new design venue explored by the manufacturer. The CDX receives the elegant diamond-shaped front grille with a row of LED headlamps and dramatic bumper lines.  The silhouette is definitely reminiscent of the HR-V with the high arch and soft hatch slope.

The compact crossover is expected to be propelled by Honda’s new 1.5L, four cylinder turbo engine teamed with an eight-speed automatic transmission - rather than a CVT. The CDX should also be offered with a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The manufacturer has, however, announced that the newcomer is destined to the Chinese market only, at least for now, with a sliver of hope that it will come to the North American market as expressed by a senior engineer at Honda’s. The new Acura CDX is expected to measure up to its luxury competitors in the European leagues, namely the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Americans Buick Encore and Lincoln MKC.
