2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro - Three Letters That Pack a Punch

Published on September 14 2016

There is no need for Toyota to show what they are capable of.

There is no need for Toyota to show what they are capable of. Between the production of the best-selling family of hybrids and North-America’s favorite sedan as well as an established reputation for quality, the automaker is in a good place. But why stop there? This year, Toyota is expanding their off-road racing inspired TRD Pro family and this time, it’s none other than the new Tacoma that will be receiving the treatment.

The Tacoma Gets Toyota's Off-Road Treatment

New for this model-year, the Tacoma has been renewed and upgraded from the ground up. Both pickup truck and off-road king, the Tacoma has been introduced last year as a capable, aggressive competitor sporting a brand new design and a stronger chassis, celebrating its 20th year on the market with quite the upgrade. Sporting an elegant hexagonal front grille, a bumper-wide air intake and a new headlight design, the 2016 Tacoma is setting new standards in the segment. For the adventure enthusiasts, a standard GoPro camera mount has been added to the model’s equipment, showing how dedicated Toyota has been at making the new Tacoma the go-to adventure ride.

For an accessible daily driver, the Tacoma is available in 4x2 layout, powered by a 2.7L, four-cylinder engine rated at 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. If a rear-wheel drive doesn’t cut it, the new Tacoma is also offered with 4x4 all-wheel drive, with your choice of between 2.7L engine amped up to produce 159 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque, or an all-new Atkinson Cycle 3.5L V6 producing 180 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for the entry-level 4x4 experience, you can even get a unicorn: a pickup truck equipped with a five-speed manual transmission! The 2016 Tacoma has a towing capacity of up to 2,720 kg depending on the chosen pairing of drivetrain and engine, and offers a payload of up to 680 kg.

Rugged on the Outside, Packed with Features on the Inside

The 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro pushes capability even further with equipment and technologies dedicated to making this Tacoma the king of off-roading. The TRD Pro package adds to the Tacoma’s already generous list of features options such as 16-inch TRD alloy wheels with All-Terrain Kevlar tires, an aluminum front skid plate, a set of Rigid Industries LED fog lights, projector beam headlights, FOX 2.5 Internal Bypass tuned shocks, tuned front springs and rear suspension, a premium audio system with navigation, wheel-mounted controls, leather-clad steering wheel, rear park assist sonar, blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert. Off-road will never have looked so good and been so comfortable!
