2016 Toyota Prius - A Fourth Generation with some Bite

Published on March 21 2016

You'll wonder why you haven’t already made the switch to a hybrid!

The Toyota Prius is one of the most recognizable and well-known hybrid models currently on the market. For 2016, the hybrid received quite a significant upgrade and entered into its fourth generation with a bolder, head-turning style. Here’s a look at the all-new 2016 Toyota Prius.

An Appearance that Packs a Punch

The Prius has been an industry trend-setter and a benchmark within its segment, recognized as one of the best hybrids on the market. It deserved a fourth generation at the height of its reputation and the Toyota designers delivered. The new lines on the Prius are more dynamic than ever, with aggressive front portion styling, improved aerodynamics with reduced drag and revised proportionswhich give it a bolder and more muscular overall look. The centre of gravity of the car has been lowered for a more grounded handling. It also becomes the first global Toyota built on the manufacturer’s new global architecture with a high-strength body structure and new double-wishbone independent suspension.

This year, the Prius also receives an available lighter and smaller lithium-ion battery in addition to the existing nickel-metal hybride one. The now smaller battery pack has been relocated under the rear seats rather than in the cargo area, increasing the useful cargo volume. The interior design of the car follows the same guidelines as the outside. The upgraded dashboard is a technological treat with a modernized instrument panel with a seven-inch touchscreen display at its center and the integrated, easy to access, elegant gear knob with a one-touch parking gear button. The Prius offers features such as voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, driver power lumber support, heated front seats, head up display, wireless smartphone charging, cruise control, smart key and push button start.

The new Prius is also one of the first Toyota cars in Canada to be offered with the Toyota Safety Sense system that combines safety technologies, including pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, auto high beam and radar cruise control. Because the Prius also runs on fully electric mode, it also offers vehicle proximity notification that warns pedestrians and cyclists of its presence.

Elegance and Economy

The hybrid sedan is equipped with a 1.8L engine with Hybrid Synergy Drive teamed with a continuously variable transmission rated at 121 combined horsepower. This hybrid powertrain dreamteam allows the Prius to offer a segment-leading combined fuel economy of 4.5L/100km.

The all new, fourth generation 2016 Toyota Prius is now available at Mendes Toyota. Take it for a spin and witness its incredible fuel economy for yourself -- you will wonder why you haven’t already made the switch to a hybrid!
